INTRODUCTION TO INITIALIZING A TAPE FOR A DAILY FILE SAVE OR SCHEDULED SAVE

This option prepares a new tape cartridge or removes data from an old tape cartridge for use in a daily file save or and the scheduled saves.

Do NOT use this option to initialize a tape for:

(1) Save payroll data on tape (Menu PBUPDT, Item Save Files)

(2) Save End of Quarter data on tape (Menu PBENDQ, Item Save)

(3) Save End of Year data on tape (Menu PBEOYR, Item W-2 Forms)

(4) Save a specified file on tape (Menu UTILMN, Item Save File on Tape)

(5) Save all SkilMatch libraries on tape (Menu UTILMN, Item Save SkilMatch Libraries)

(6) Save the full system on tape (refer to your “Spiral Notebook”)

Note: use Menu UTILMN, Item Initialize Payroll Tape for these options.

Use this option to initialize a tape for:

(1) Daily Save (Menu UTILMN, Item Daily Save)

(2) Scheduled Save (Menu SCDSAV1, Item Set-Up)

Requirements:

(1) Your AS/400 must have a tape drive. The tape drive is device TC.

(2) If you do not have access to the PayBill Library Master Menu, you must have the authority to key on the command line to proceed with this option.

(3) This option MAY be processed from a CRT or a PC.

HOW TO INITIALIZE A TAPE FOR DAILY FILE SAVE

You must have access to the UTILMN menu to access this option. The UTILMN menu may be accessed in two ways:

From Menu PBMAST, click [Utilities].

From any SEARCH menu, key UTILSR and click [OK]. You must have the authority to key on the command line.

The screen will display:

Click [Scheduled Save Set-Up].

The screen will display:

Note: before selecting the menu option, go to the AS/400 and insert the tape cartridge.

After you have inserted the tape, click [Initialize Tape].

The screen will display:

Tape Device Name:

If you have only 1 tape drive, your tape device name will be TC.

If you have more than one tape drive, key the name of the drive you will be using in this option.

If you wish to proceed with the initialization, click [OK].

If you do NOT wish to proceed, click [Cancel].

If you chose to proceed, the system will verify that the AS/400 has a tape device with the name you keyed. If it locates a device with the name entered above, the tape initialization will begin. Your screen will remain input inhibited until the procedure has completed.

When the initialization has finished, you will return to menu and the screen will display:

Note: a message will appear at the bottom of your screen confirming that the tape initialization completed successfully.

You may remove the tape from the tape drive and label it as an SMBACK tape.

This tape can be used for:

(1) Daily Save (Menu UTILMN, Item Daily Save)

(2) Scheduled Save (Menu SCDSAV1, Item Set-Up)
